The Jakončič family, which lives and works in the village of Vipolže in Brda, has been enthusing others for many years with their Piro trademark wines. They were named after their great-grandfather Peter, whose Friulian version of his name was Piro. He bought the land in 1932 and planted the first grapevine. Afterwards, a farm grew on this land, which now gives birth to fresh, more mature and more rich wines of the Bosc line (which is Friulian for ‘woods’). The Jakončič family has received numerous awards for their efforts, among others also the title of Chardonnay world champion, the Slovenian champion of Pinot gris, multiple winner of the Slovenian wine festival and the latest awards from 2018 – the golden medal for Sauvignon.
