During the Venetian Republic, 400 years ago, Istrians were aware that their indigenous variety of Refošk is something special. It was the wine which supposed to have healing effects and it was reserved only for the chosen ones. The same still applies today, as not every vintage is good enough to produce Rener, but when this is the case, they produce this exceptional wine from a selection of only the best Refoška grapes from their vineyards.

The color is deep ruby. The bouquet indicates a fully matured wine and is reminiscent of undergrowth, earth, vanilla, caramel. Dry, strong wine, tannins are completely softened, acids are still present. Very good and rich refošk.The wine already shows its rich aroma and elegance. By maturing in the bottle, however, it will only gain in softness and elegance over time. Therefore, properly fed, it can be left to age for up to fifteen years.

Exotic aromatics, luscious yellow-cling peach and passion fruit. Touch of very lightly toasted almonds. Builds and amplifies in the mouth, wisps of Szechuan and cordite widening to the bitter and sweet spice of garam masala and turmeric, then the intensity of dried apricots and salted lemon curd. Tightens up on the finish, the saltiness coming into sharp focus.(Tamlyn Currin, JancisRobinson.com)Vinification: Handpicked into 10 kg cases and emptied gently into a destemmer. Selected grapes proceed in oak vats for spontaneous fermentation with wild yeast only and two days of skin contact. Aged on fine lees for 35 months in 25hl oak cask. No filtration nor fininig.
