Australians have endless areas suitable for viticulture, and their wines are highly prized. The Australian winemaking has only been subject to intensive development for the last 50 years, yet there are already around 2,000 wine cellars in business there today. They are best known for their rich shiraz, which has evolved in the hot environment from an elegant French variety from the Rhône Valley called syrah into a peppery and fruity giant that dominates the Australian winemaking. In principle, almost all grape varieties can be found in Australia and are grown there more or less successfully.
