The red harvest continued until October 14 to allow the grapes from the latest plots to complete their maturation. Despite the persistence of good weather, some of them did not succeed, probably due to excessive water stress. It was therefore necessary to discard an unusual proportion of the harvest, around 23%. Perhaps a few of these lots would have joined the second wine in a typical vintage, but the potential of the 2009 was out of this world. The Pavillon Rouge therefore represents only 41% of the harvest.
Cabernet Sauvignon: 67%; merlot: 29%; petit verdot: 4%: these proportions are the assurance of a certain classicism despite impressive tannic power, even superior to that of the Pavillon Rouge 2005. 4. But the real greatness of the 2009 is to have given to these tannins so concentrated an astonishing sweetness and delicacy. We had never experienced such a balance. When to start drinking it? Difficult question to answer as this wine is already charming and delicious, but its immense potential…
