South Africa

Nowadays, the most commonly planted vine is chenin blanc, followed by sauvignon blanc, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. These are followed by the two best-known varieties in South Africa - colombard and pinotage.

In the last 30 years, the proportion of red varieties in South Africa has increased from 18% to 44% of all varieties planted. Red wines are produced in a variety of styles - from fruity and fresh to rich and often high in alcohol. There is also the Bordeaux style of wine called Cape Blend, which is a blend of pinotage and international varieties. White wines dominated by chenin blanc can be found in both sweet and dry versions, mostly in richer creations.

Due to its geographical position, South Africa has enough warmth, but is also exposed to beneficial cooling influences, such as the Benguel. Current, which produces cool summer winds. Most of the wine is produced in the Western Cape, which is divided into 3 regions - Coastal Region, Cape South Coast and Breede River Valley.
