Nikka From The Barrel is a blended whisky which was released in 1985. The development of this expression started with an aim to deliver full flavors and richness of whisky like "from the barrel", which only blenders can sniff and taste. The secret behind its gorgeous flavor is the unique combination of complex blending, higher ABV 51.4% and "marriage" process.
The iconic square bottle reflects its concept "a small block of whisky" and embodies the intense and rich flavors of the whisky inside. Long after its launch, this bottle is still timeless and recognized for its ultimate simplicity.

Nikka uses two Coffey distillation boilers (named after its founder, Irishman Aeneas Coffey) at its Miyagikyo distillery. The boilers were imported from Scotland in 1963 and it is these boilers that give more flavor than modern grain whiskey boilers.The whiskey is a deep golden color, on the nose it is sweet with a hint of mango, papaya and orange peel. We notice notes of cinnamon, coconut and popcorn. The mouth is full of caramel popcorn flavor, with a hint of citrus and tropical fruits. Whiskey is full-bodied with a not-so-long aftertaste, dominated by rich oak and jam.

Previously only released as part of single casks, Nikka decided to add their Coffey Malt to their core range in 2014. Distilled in a Coffey still normally used for grain whisky production, the malt is delightfully fruity and spicy.Nose: Fresh and clean, with aromas of candied lemon peel and rich cake spices.Palate: Robust and spicy, quite a dense mouthfeel and richly textured, with cinnamon and clove on the palate, and citrus-tinged freshness to lighten the load.Finish: Harmonious blend of dense spices, rich oak, and lemon and orange notes. Merlot (80%), Cabernet Sauvignon (10%), Cabernet Franc (10%); from selected vineyards that are 15 to 35 years old. Careful selection, 14 days of maceration, and 36 to 42 months of maturing in 100% new oak barrels yields an open, clean wine, reminiscent of Bordeaux wines, which will not and can not be hidden. The ageing potential is 15 years.Deep, ruby colour with tinges of garnet showing bit of development. Intense on the nose, still quite youthful regardless of age. It shows plenty of ripe dark red and black fruits, nicely knit with scents of maturation in high quality oak barrels. Black cherry, sour cherry, vanilla, a hint of spicy black pepper as well as smoke. With time gentle floral sensations such as violets are coming through. All this is nicely interlaced in joint, very inviting, high quality aromatic sensation. Quite vibrant.Dry on the palate, full bodied. With grippy tannins, plenty of structure with an aim to bring the wine in the second decade of its life in the best vintages this can be extended even to third or fourth decade. Acidities are ripe, quite high. With a rich, intense, complex aroma on the palate which s lasting. With long aertaste full of fruits and sweet spices like cloves and nutmeg.To be cellared for at least five years after the release and then can be matured for another decade.
